How To Take Digital Photographs Underwater

There are easy ways and hard ways to take digital photographs underwater.

You can take a submarine trip, and take pictures through the windows.  Just hope that they're not dirty enough to wreck your photos.

Still, this is probably the easiest way.  After all, you don't need any special equipment.  You don't even have to get wet!  You just buy a ticket, take your pictures, and you're done.  You could end up with good photos.  Stranger things have happened.

But if you're interested in having more control over the quality of your shots, you'll probably want to enter the water yourself.

The cheap way is to use your regular digital camera.  Just put it in a plastic bag and hope it doesn't leak.  You don't want to use a sandwich bag or something.  Sniff around the Internet for some recommendations.

One example is produced by Ewa-Marine.  Find a review of their equipment at http://www.photo.net/equipment/ewa/.  You can find more information at their website: http://www.ewa-marine.de/.

You'll probably want to invest in something like this because you don't want to ruin your camera.  Buy at least a thick plastic bag.

But if you don't think that is enough protection, you may want to buy a special housing for your digital camera.  The best are supposedly from Ikelite.  Check out their website -- http://www.ikelite.com/ -- to see what they have to offer.

If you're really getting interested in underwater photography, you may want to invest in a waterproof camera.  Just make sure the model you buy is actually waterproof, and not just weatherproof.

Another thing to think about is the water pressure you'll be dealing with.  You want to make sure that your camera won't be ruined by the pressure.

These are just some things to think about.  You'll want to decide whether you want to become an underwater photographer or whether you just want to document your vacation before you buy anything.
